One annual event of our alumni association is called "Making Amends to the Lake"
We go out and clean up cans and bottles left behind by careless drinkers. This could have been us in the past. It's the least we can do for Mother Nature. Why should little kids in Brownies or Cub Scouts pick up our trash ? They weren't responsible for pitching it.
