President Harry S. Truman led the effort to establish a single holiday for citizens to come together and
thank our military members for their patriotic service in support of our country.
On August 31, 1949, Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of an Armed Forces Day to replace
separate Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force Days. The single-day celebration stemmed from the unification of the Armed
Forces under one department -- the Department of Defense.

As I continue to prepare for my move west
I am pleased to take a moment to invite you to our Winter Solstice Celebration coming in a few weeks on Friday Dec. 5th at
6pm.
This will be the last one I will be facilitating
here in the mid-west and I would love to see you all. I am also pleased to announce that Ashley Namuth will be co-facilitating
with me this year, and I hope she will continue in the years to come.
Just as in the past you will need to bring
with you a symbol representing your intention for yourself in the coming year 2009. You can do this with anything from a little
statue to a written note. Any form you wish. You will not be asked to divulge this intention; it is your private desire.
We will be serving hot chocolate, tea and
cider as well as treats in the spirit of our own tradition. We will meet at 2501 South St.
You can park on the street to the left or east of the building.
If you haven’t sent a RSVP
please do, so that we will have enough supplies. Carissa with Euphoria is donating all the candles this year :) You may bring
treats but don’t feel obligated.

The Partners in Recovery Foundation's mission is to help families of recovering addicts and alcoholics,
especially, their children. Partners runs two childcare programs on Saturday night and Tuesday night while
their parents attend recovery meetings. Your donation will help buy everything from crayons to teddy bears!

NEBRASKA FAMILY SUPPORT NETWORK
From Safe
Haven to Safe Harbor
What the Safe Haven Law has uncovered is that many Nebraska families who have children with mental/emotional/ behavioral
health disorders are in crisis. As family and community members we have the opportunity to educate our Nebraska ’s legislators
about the challenges families face and to help them understand that these problems will not just
“go away” with the repeal of the Safe
Haven Legislation.
YOUR VOICE COUNTS
Join us on November 17, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. for the
SAFE HARBOR RALLY
on the north steps of the State Capitol Bldg. in Lincoln
National and local media will be present at this hearing. We can make an impact
on behalf of Nebraska ’s children/families if we show up with a united voice to support what these Safe Haven families
have revealed – FAMILIES ARE IN CRISIS! We will not be defending the Safe Haven Law
– we will be making a public statement on challenges
faced by families with children with mental/emotional/behavioral health disorders, as well as asking Nebraska leaders for
their commitment to ensuring that families and youth have adequate services/support which they are able to access in a non-punitive,
family centered environment.
This is an incredible opportunity for helping the public understand challenges
faced by families with children with mental health issues. Let’s fill this bus - bring your friends, bring your family!
